Pre-registration is required for the workshops, which will be held in the following cities.

Salina September 9

Chanute September 10

Colby September 15

Dodge City September 16

The Competitive Plan Implementation grant program provides funding for the development and operation of recycling, source reduction, waste minimization, and solid waste management public education programs. Kansas counties, cities, solid waste management regions, and private entities actively participating in solid waste management may apply for these grants. Funding for the grants comes from the $1.00 fee charged on each ton of municipal solid waste disposed of in Kansas landfills.

There is approximately $1 million available for grant awards in Round #7. Grant awards in the previous rounds have ranged from $1,000 to $300,000 with the average grant award in the $30,000 - $50,000 range. The deadline for submission of Round #7 applications is October 30, 1998.

If you would like to request an application guide and form or would like to register for one of the workshops, please contact Cathy Colglazier of the Bureau of Waste Management at (800) 282-9790 or visit the KDHE website at http://www.kdheks.gov/waste/ to download and application guide and form.
