Kansas LEAN-21

Recognizing the rapidly increasing rates of and alarming health impacts (diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and stroke, etc.) from sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits, representatives from more than 50 organizations and agencies across the state have formed the expanded Kansas LEAN-21 Coalition facilitated by the BHP Nutrition and Physical Activity Program. This Coalition has reviewed the Healthy People 2010 chapters related to Nutrition and Overweight and Physical Activity and Fitness and selected 6 objectives as priority areas to address. Those six objectives are:

  1. Increase the proportion of Kansans who are at a healthy weight
  2. Increase the proportion of children and adolescents aged 6 to 19 years whose intake of meals and snacks at schools contributes proportionally to good overall dietary quality
  3. Increase the proportion of work sites that offer nutrition or weight management classes or counseling
  4. Increase the proportion of adults who engage regularly, preferably daily, in moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day
  5. Increase the proportion of Kansas public and private schools that require daily physical education for all students
  6. Increase the proportion of work sites offering employer-sponsored physical activity and fitness programs
