An alert from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued
in April said examples of chili-containing products include lollipops
coated with chili and powdery mixtures of salt, lemon flavor and
chili seasoning sold as a snack item contain lead. Click here to

While such candies are banned from import, many
slip by because they are shipped in boxes not marked as food. Meanwhile,
the FDA is considering new regulatory action and recently stepped
up efforts to work with the Mexican government and industry on
the problem.
Warnings have also been issued that mention candy
that's sold in glazed ceramic containers imported from Mexico because
they contain lead.
The Orange County Register Newspaper in California
conducted a six-part investigation story regarding lead in candy.
This story will give you information and pictures regarding the
candy found to have lead. Click here to read the Orange County
Register story. http://www.ocregister.com/investigations/2004/lead/index.php
