Kansas Kids' Fitness Day

Kansas Kids’ Fitness & Safety Day

Host Site Coordinators

Kansas Kids’ Fitness & Safety Day (KKFD) will be held on

May 4, 2012!

What is a Host Site?
Kansas Kids Fitness Day takes place at two flagship sites:

  • on the lawn at Cedar Crest in Topeka and at
  • the national historic site of Fort Larned on the Santa Fe Trail

However, KKFD would not be possible without the multiple regional and local events held across the state at various locations by various organizations and individuals. As the number of students attending KKFD continues to rise, we are continually looking for more sites to host an event. Host sites may regulate the number of students allowed to attend their site. Current host site attendance ranges from 100 to 2000 students per location. Host sites may be specific to a single school or school district or they may be regional allowing student from anywhere to attend. Educational materials are provided to each site for all attending students.

What are the responsibilities of a host site coordinator?
Should you decide to host an event, planning for your site would be flexible. As a host site coordinator you would need to confirm a location, determine the number of students invited to attend, organize the games and events, coordinate with the teachers and schools attending your site, find volunteers for the event day and contact vendors to provide services at your event. A step by step planning guide will be provided to you to assist you through the planning process. In addition, educational materials are provided to you for the students in attendance and t-shirts are provided to your site for volunteers.

The Kansas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (KAHPERD) will provide reimbursement of up to $200.00 to Regional Kansas Kids’ Fitness and Fitness Day Host Sites for expenses incurred to support the event. KAHPERD has limited funding available so the funds are distributed on a first come first serve basis.  These funds can’t be used for substitute pay, lunches or gifts for volunteers. The request for reimbursement must be submitted by a member of KAHPERD.  To become a member, please vist the KAHPERD website registration page at: http://www.kahperd.org/membershiprates.php.  Please contact Vicki Worrell at  (620)-341-5993 for details regarding the reimbursement process.
