Waste Management

What It Is

Seems like a no-brainer, doesn't it? Waste Management. What is there to manage? You put the cans at the curb and - problem solved, right? Well, not exactly.

There's a whole bureau at the KDHE devoted to managing waste. That's a lot of people dedicated to what comes after the curb. That's a lot of people dedicated to your health and environment.

And there's a science and a system to waste management - to keep Kansas clean. Proper management of solid waste is critical to public health, as well as to the aesthetics of the community.

There are several distinct activities related to waste management:
  • Collection and storage
  • Recycling and composting (source reduction)
  • Disposal (including landfilling and municipal waste combustion)
  • Household hazardous waste management
