C'mon! With just a small effort, you can make a big difference for Kansans.
We all like to feel like we're making a difference. The good news: it's not just a feeling - we are making a change. And it's painless.
So what can you do to help out? Take action!
Buy only the chemicals you need to get the job done.
Ask for help at the store. Buy the correct product for the job you're doing.
Read labels to identify products that minimize or do not contain hazardous substances.
Always follow label directions.
Use only the recommended amount of product.
By purchasing smaller quantities, you'll be less likely to have leftovers and a disposal problem.
Buying in large quantities is not a bargain if half of it has to be discarded.
Use it up! When household products are used up, they don't become wastes.
If you can't use it up, give it to a person or group who can.
Be imaginative. Got leftover paint? Would your town's high school drama department be interested in paint for set design? How about an anti-graffiti group?
Your local nursery or garden center may be interested in leftover pesticides.
Check with Habitat for Humanity when you've got leftover paint thinner, wood stain or other project materials.

Some HHWs can be recycled. Automobile batteries and motor oil can be returned to auto parts stores and service stations for recycling.
If the materials is not useable, transferable or recyclable, take it to your community's HHW collection site. Click here for locations.
