Grants
Like a lot of good things, being kind to the environment costs money.on a large scale, that is.

While it costs you nothing to separate your paper and plastics at home, city- or area-wide recycling centers and other environmentally-friendly centers aren't free. But where does the money come from? And how can you get your hands on it to start your own local resource?

In a word: grants. The State of Kansas has monies set aside especially for solid waste management grants - and they're awarded each year to people just like you. People with a vision of making it better and getting it done.

Sound familiar?

Nearly $10 million has been put to work through grants in the last five years.

Grant monies come from "tipping fees" - the fee your waste management company pays to dispose of each truckload of garbage.

Any individual, group, public or private company or local government may apply for a grant.

Grant workshops are offered free of charge to help you through the application process.
