Waste Management
We know it's easy to do - put the trash on the curb and forget it ever existed. The thing is - it does still exist. And we know that trash is like a lot of things - out of sight, out of mind. That's why trash is always on our minds - so it doesn't weigh on yours.

And we've given it a lot of thought. We know how to manage Kansas' waste so it doesn't harm the environment. We've used science, skill and years of experience to prevent problems before they start.

So you can put the trash on the curb and never give it another thought.

  Waste Management

What is Waste Management
There's a science and a system to waste management - to keep Kansas clean. Seems like a no-brainer, doesn't it? Waste Management. What is there to manage? You put the cans at the curb and - problem solved, right? Well, not exactly.

How Waste Management Works
Ever wonder how a landfill works? It's more than just a "dump." Despite common wisdom, it's not like a "dump" at all. It's more like a carefully designed, scientifically based brick-and-mortar system.

Make a Difference
You can directly affect the environment - just by managing your trash! We know - trash isn't at the top of your list of things to think about. After all - it's trash. To a lot of people that means "Not my problem."

Americans throw away about 10% of the food they buy at the supermarket. This results in dumping the equivalent of more than 21 million shopping bags full of food into landfills each year.

More than 2/3 of the material going into landfills is degradable and/or recyclable.

Although plastics account for only 8% of the waste stream by weight, they occupy about 20% of the volume in a landfill due to their low bulk density.

In a lifetime, the average American will throw away 600 times their adult weight in garbage. That means that a 150-pound adult will leave a legacy of 90,000 pounds of trash for his or her children.
