Note - KDHE is currently developing a new look for its website, so the current site you see here may not show the latest information available for some programs. The KDHE Communications Office instituted a six-week moratorium on most website updates in order to finish work on this new site that we're scheduled to launch in early February. If you question whether certain pages on this site contain the most current information available, send us an email at communications@kdheks.gov. Thank you for your patience!

Tips to Stay Green During the Holidays

  • At the end of the holidays, recycle your tree into compost or add it to your brush pile for animal refuge.
  • Go chop down a tree. An artificial Christmas tree might seem like the greener option, but faux branches are usually made of materials that cannot be recycled.
Tree and presents
  • Save energy and money by switching out your incandescent lights with new LEDs (light emitting diodes).
  • Try using items found around the house to wrap your presents such as newspaper comics, magazines, decorative boxes, fabric, bows and boxes.
  • If you do decorate with lights, don’t forget to use a timer so the lights are only on when there is an audience.

Call for Entries: Voices
for Health Equity Project

KDHE issuing a call for entries for the Voices
for Health Equity project. The Center for Health Equity wants to hear how organizations are working to achieve equity in health among groups of people living in Kansas communities through photo stories.

Submissions may come from health departments, federally-qualified health centers, tribal health and Indian Health Service clinics, partnering organizations, and community coalitions in
Kansas. The three main objectives for this project are:

  • Create awareness of the factors which influence equity and the health of Kansans.
  • Engage a diverse mixture of Kansans and provide a platform for their voices to be heard.
  • Start a conversation about the ways we can make Kansas a healthier place for everyone.

Deadline for submissions is March 1, 2012. Five winning stories will be made into Digital Stories, presented across the state and online. Winners will receive $200 each for participating.

Visit www.healthequityks.org to complete the
application.
