What is happening in Kansas Local Health Departments ?

Many health departments are in the process of completing the DOJ survey.

Please let us know what events or projects you are working on so we may share the information with other health departments.

KALHD Activities

KALHD is working to develop a tool to assess the current capacity of local health departments to provide public health services to their communities.  The assessment will be used to identify basic certification topics, then training material related to those topics will be provided to the local health departments.

The following needs have been identified as essential to strengthening the organizational capacity of the Kansas public health system

Ability to perform ongoing community assessments

  • Consistent local epidemiological capability

  • Ability to prioritize health needs

  • Comprehensive public health coverage in rural areas

  • Promote a minimum public health presence in each county
