Consumer Product Safety Program

The consumer product safety program is directed at protecting the public against unreasonable risks of injury associated with consumer products.

Activities of this program are carried out in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Nearly all consumer products are regulated. Some products such as firearms, motor vehicles, aircraft, and pesticides are regulated by agencies other than CPSC.

Field staff conduct surveys to determine the effectiveness of product recalls. Marketing practices of retailers are spot checked. These checks are completed to assure consumer products are marketed to the appropriate user.
