Pregnancy Maintenance Initiative (PMI)
- Program Purpose
The purpose of the Senator Stan Clark PMI program is to award grants to non-for-profit organizations for services to enable pregnant women to carry their pregnancies to term. - Project’s Goals
- Pregnancy women unable to pay for pregnancy care will not be denied the delivery or provision of pregnancy maintenance services
- Provide individual participants adoption services, education or information
- Increase levels of self-sufficiency and goal-directedness relating to their own futures and that of their children.
- Funding
Continuation Grants: Highest priority is to continue funding of local agencies that consistently meet contract objectives and requirements, and participate in education updates. Grants are subject to availability of funds.
- New Grants: At this time, funding is expected to be available to support only those projects currently in existence.
- Match: Local matching funds are a dollar for dollar match by participating organization.
- Local PMI Services: Applicants should adhere to utilization of funding as described in the Senator Stan Clark Pregnancy Maintenance Initiative Grant Program Application and Program Procedures.
- Specific Program Information
- Application – Follow the KDHE “SFY2013 Grant Application Guidance” instructions. The application budget must include expenses for staff to attend education updates.

- SFY 2013 Outcome Objectives:
1. After entry into the PMI program, 100% of the pregnant females will receive adequate prenatal care, as measured by the Kansas Prenatal Care Index.
2. 100% of program participants and their children will participate in well child (preventive) health programs as measured by immunization records and Kan-Be-Healthy/EPSDT schedules.
3. 100% of parents will have demonstrated adequate parenting capacity at exit from the program as measured by case management reports of absence of confirmed Child Protection Services report because of the parentīs abusive action or neglect.

- Other:
1. As a condition of accepting grant funds, the Grantee will be required to input records data in development of the annual report to the State Legislature which will include:
• Number of women utilizing pregnancy maintenance initiative services,
• Percentage of funds used for pre-natal services and the percentage used for post-birth services
• Number of women choosing adoption.
2. The Local Health Agency will provide for orientation and training of new staff. Staff will participate in the annual PMI training.
3. Technical assistance will be provided via phone and/or KDHE staff may conduct on-site visits. A corrective action plan for issues identified during the said site visits will be established and implemented as indicated.
