Kansas Basic Home Visitation Training
The Basic Home Visitor training is designed for individuals that work with families of young children in a home-based setting. This course will provide home visitors with the knowledge that they need to be successful when working with families within their program. Some of the topics included in the training are self-care, setting boundaries, ethics in working with families and communicating with families and staff. Once the online portion of the class is completed and a post-assessment has been passed, participants will then be eligible to enroll in the 2 1/2 day face-to-face course to complete the training.
The course contains 6 modules and a post assessment. The online portion should take approximately 4 1/2 hours total to complete and does not need to be done all at once. For those interested in taking the course go to the KS-TRAIN website at http://ks.train.org. You will first need to create a user account. You can do this by clicking the blue "Create Account" button on the left-hand side of the page. This will take you to a page where you can enter in all of your information and create your account.
Once you have created your account you can enter the course number 1043474 into the box on the upper right hand side of the page. This will take you to the Basic Home Visitation course. Click on the "Registration" tab. Here you will see all six modules and the final assessment. To register for a module, click on the link for the module that you would like. This will take you to another page that has tabs at the top. Click the "Registration" tab again and you will be directed to a page that has a "Launch" button on it. Click this button to activate the module.
You will need to complete each of the modules in order to take the final assessment. Upon successful completion of the course, course journal and final assessment, you will receive confirmation that you have passed the course. Once you have completed the course, please contact Shawna Hall at Shall@ksheadstart.org to get information about signing up for the face-to-face portion of the course.
One additional course, Child Abuse and Neglect, needs to be completed but is not included in the set of modules. This can also be found in KS-TRAIN by entering course number 1043466 and following the same steps as stated above. This course must be taken prior to completing the post assessment as well.
