BUREAU OF DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION
The Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention (BDCP) supports Health programs by assessing public health problems and consulting on the appropriate medical and administrative measures to prevent and control single cases and outbreaks of disease. This is accomplished by applying epidemiologic processes and providing core public health services to intervene in the spread of infectious diseases. BDCP provides Immunization services including Vaccines for Children; HIV/AIDS services including counseling and testing and treatment services; Sexually Transmitted Disease services including partner counseling and referral services and Tuberculosis services including screening, treatment and partner follow-up. The Adult Viral Hepatitis Prevention Program began in November 2007 and has successfully worked with Immunizations, HIV and STD Programs as well as the Bureau of Surveillance and Epidemiology staff to expand the Adult Viral Hepatitis Vaccine Initiative to high risk individuals as well as provides Hepatitis Prevention education and outreach. The bureau works closely with other bureaus within KDHE and external partners to continuously improve the public’s health.
